…for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me…
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul All Saints Conference sees the face of Jesus in everyone we serve. The world has grown very difficult for many of our neighbors and we receive a high volume of calls for assistance. Many struggle to catch up on rent under the threat of eviction, pay a utility bill before service is terminated, and feed their families. Others face a sudden crisis…a serious health issue, loss of job, a death in the family. We also serve a significant number of single mothers, many fleeing from abusive relationships. The list is endless but no work of charity is outside our ministry.
Sadly, many have no one else to turn to for help. At the heart of our mission is the home visit. Two team members conduct these visits, symbolizing our respect for the poor. We are their guest and our neighbors feel free to entrust their stories of struggle. It is here in the family setting that we are asked to listen, offer humble advice, and render both material and spiritual assistance.
Despite the incredible generosity of parishioners, Boston Council Programs, Foundation awards and a city block development grant, our Conference has run out of funds at times. Thankfully, the District as well as other Conferences provided timely donations to allow us to continue serving those in need.
The special collection next weekend (11/2 & 11/3) will allow us to continue our mission of being the hands and feet of Christ as we head into winter.
